Peace With Cuba
Project Created: Sunday, May 24, 2009
Project Leader: Thomas C
Location: Nashville, United States of America
Project Goal: Despite the differences between Cuban and United States Government, we need to keep peace with Cuban People.
Project Cause: Because Cuba refused to comply with unfair demands by the US government that the Cuban government conduct its affairs in a certain way, the US government decided to punish the Cuban people by instituting an embargo of goods and services, thereby denying citizens of both countries the opportunity to benefit from peaceful relations.
Project Plan: We've launched a website at www.peacewithcuba.com to raise awareness and help change legislation in the US. Our church will apply for a travel license to visit our partner church in Santa Clara, Cuba. We will take pharmaceuticals and other goods to our Cuban sisters and brothers, whatever we can share legally.

Thank you. I was most fortunate to meet Rigoberta Menchu Tum in Memphis (February 2008). She signed three books (written in Spanish) to our partner church, La Iglesia Bautista Alberto J. Diaz. What I did not know was that the pastor of this church, Niubes, had met Rigoberta many years ago before she won the Nobel Peace Prize. When I presented the books, she was overcome with emotion and was hardly able to speak. She told her congregation about meeting Rigoberta and what an honor it was for the church to have her books! |

Hey Thomas! I love this idea. We need more projects that reach out to the humanity in each of us. And what a cool reaction to the Rigoberta Menchu autographed books. |

Thanks for doing this.
U.S. foreign policy toward Cuba has long baffled me completely. The political power is so strong among the Cuban ex-pat community that a small group of voters in a swing state like Florida has dictated foreign policy. I also believe that if Cuba was a large potential trading partner (like China), the ban would have been lifted long ago.
Reach out... help the world see this for what it is. |
