All over the world people are answering PeaceJam’s Global Call to Action by creating a GCA project. These projects are created and run by individuals and groups who are ready to take action and create creative, nonviolent solutions to problems they see in their communities.

What "Officially" Counts as a Project?

"If I do a letter writing campaign, does each letter count as a project?"

We are asked questions like this all of the time! And though we do sometimes find ourselves saying "YES" when we think about the daunting task of tracking one billion projects, we can't say yes in actuality. Our easy answer is that a GCA project is any project on which you can fill out a full project page. It would be tough to fill out a full project page on just one letter - the overall campaign is the project. Use your best discression, but always contact us if you need help or have questions!

Age Limits:
The GCA is open to everyone! Though PeaceJam programming is primarily for youth between the ages of 5-29, there is no age limit on getting involved in creating a GCA project. If we're going to reach the goal of creating One Billion Projects, we need everyone's help!

Who can Create a GCA Project?
Like we said, the GCA is open to everyone! Projects can be created in schools, community centers, NGO's and non-profits, service clubs, families, places of faith, neighborhoods, businesses, governmental bodies, and more. It does not have to be a brand new project, either. If you are already doing something great in the world, please share it and count it toward the GCA goals. GCA projects can be done anywhere there is a person or group of people who want to take nonviolent action toward creating a more just and peaceful world!

What have been some GCA projects?
PeaceJammers have tackled the GCA with many different types of projects. Here are a few:
  • Bringing clean water to a slum in India
  • Educating youth in South Africa about HIV/AIDS
  • Improving housing for families in Argentina.
  • Creating a “green” school in Denver, Colorado.

There are plenty of problems that need to be addressed and millions of ways to act. What will your GCA project be? It’s up to you. But whatever you do, your project should:
  • Address a problem in one of the 10 Global Call to Action areas
  • Reflect the opinions, values, voices, resources, and assets of the people in the community being served
  • Meet Authentic Community Needs
  • Show thoughtful reflection throughout the project process
  • Have definite goals, with summations at each step including a final report when the project is concluded, or a plan to keep things going if it is a continuous project.
  • Be in line with the GCA Principles
