Project Goal: Our goal is to reduce the amount of trash that leaves our church. This will increase the amount of stuff that gets recycled and composted, which is better than adding to landfills.
Root Cause: We have a lot of waste materials produced in our buildings. In the past, all of this waste went into landfills, because people didn't understand where to throw their waste away.
Project Plan: We plan to educate the people who use our church on Sundays and at special events, like concerts, so they know where to throw their stuff away. We will show them what stuff can be composted and recycled and what stuff needs to be thrown in the trash. First, we will study the disposal stations that are in place. We will wear plastic gloves and sort through the materials in each of four bins (Compost, Cans & Bottles, Paper, and Trash). Second, we will read the Waste Educator sheets, which tells us what materials should go where. Third, when we are "on-duty" we will wear our special name tags and t-shirts so people know who we are, and we will help them know where to put their stuff. Our group will have two people at every church service and special event from January until April. |
