Project Goal: To improve the number of youth that succede in thier future.

Root Cause: 13.5% of Camden County lives in poverty, 44% of the grandparents in Camden County are raising their grandchildren, in 2007 575 families applied for Christmas gifts for their children because they could not afford it,camden County had the 3rd highest teen pregnancy rate in the state of Missouri, 21% of children are born to mothers who have dropped out of school. The root causes of the problem are: 1) a high rate of drug use in our community. 2) Our state ranked number one in meth lab busts in the U.S. last year. This is leading to homes breaking up, children living in poverty, child neglect and abuse, and teens dropping out of school.

Project Plan: We are developing a plan to mentor elementary school age youth. 1) We will read to them, 2)We will play sports with them, 3)We will work with them in an after school program and possibly during school, 4)We will teach them self-esteem adn leadership skills. We will partner with the Camdenton School District, Camdenton City Police Department, and the Child Advocacy Center in Camdenton. this weill be an on-going activity during the summer and school year.
