Project Goal: Work on the Clothesline Project

Root Cause: There are various causes and different situations regarding the specific problem regarding violence against women. Many are abuse (both physically/sexually), raped, molested, targeted because of sexual orientation, and even because they are disabled.

Project Plan: Our Peace Jam group has focused on a project called the Clothesline Project (originally started in October of 1990 in Massachusetts by a group of women). Some of you may have not heard of it but it is a project in which t-shirts designed by survivors or loved ones (of only women) are hung on a clothesline. Most of the women that design these shirts are those that have experienced horrible things such as rape, sexual/physical abuse, or any other types of violence targeted to women specifically. These shirts are a way for women to let their anger out in a positive way that raises awareness for others around them. Our target is not only to raise awareness but also to make a difference. The clothesline will be located in the quad (which is in the center of our campus) and therefore will draw attention to it.
