| What specific problem does this project address? Ruthie needs our support to get an education so she can provide a living for herself. |
| What research was done for this project? When we presented about PeaceJam to Whitecourt schools, they told us about their Project Masulita. We have been corresponding with them to keep up-to-date, and asking for a specific way that we could help. |
| How was this project decided upon? After our assembly, the school's student body voted to take on the project. |
| How will this project remain ongoing? We have made posters and post newsletter articles monthly to keep our community up-to-date on what is happening. We began our fundraising by selling bracelets. We plan to continue to fundraise and report on Ruthie's progress. We will select classes to write to Ruthie and share her replies. We hope to send delegates with the Whitecourt School when they return to Kenya. |
| How is this project going to make a difference? High Park's Ruthie Project will provide support to Ruthie in Africa by making it possible for her to attend school. As well, the money raised will fund both housing and the needed supplies that Ruthie will require for the African school year. It is the hope of the orphanage that there will also be enough money to provide Ruthie with an aide. This aide would teach Ruthie a craft that she is capable of mastering. Once she has mastered this craft, the aid would then assist her in the setting up of her own business. By doing this Ruthie will be able to take pride in earning and managing the money that she earned for herslf. It is not just Ruthie that will benefit from our project. The "High Park School Community" will also benefit by taking on the role of responsible global citizens. |
