Petition for the Starving
Eliminating Extreme Poverty
What specific problem does this project address? Extreme Poverty and the indifference of wealthy society toward it.
What research was done for this project? We have researched government sites to find statistics on US spending, as well as researching world military spending. We have also researched the amount of poverty in different areas, where it is most significant. We are also in the process of researching legitimate groups to which the funds would be directed.
How was this project decided upon? The project was proposed by Betty Williams at Heartland PeaceJam 2009. She and her organization are already working on it and doing the same research. I am simply beginning the petition in the US to get the whole thing going and recognized.
How will this project remain ongoing? We will continue pushing this petition as long as it takes, be it years or decades. We may not get 1% but we will continue going to door to door, posting blogs, and doing interviews until the problem is addressed.
How is this project going to make a difference? If we can pass this petition, the effects would be ineffible. Innumerable men, women, and children could have a chance at a long and healthy life if we could all be a little less selfish.
