Eliminating Extreme Poverty

Project Goal: Our mission is to lower the military budget in the United States 1% and pump the savings into impoverished societies worldwide. The goal is to have every country lower there budget 1% for the same cause and hopefully decrease the extreme poverty in many areas of the world.

Root Cause: The root cause we are addressing is the extreme poverty felt in areas all over the world that are being ignored. The allocation of spending to the military in the United States is absurdly more than any other country in the world. As a country, we have moved away from humanitarianism that we, as one of the wealthiest countries in the world, should be focusing on. It is time to stop pushing aside the needs of others and make their well-being our problem.

Project Plan: As of now, we have started developing a plan of how the money should be allocated. We have started pushing the petition around Memphis, TN. From walking door to door, to visiting churches, to having interviews on radio shows, we are trying to make this a success. We will be taking the petition before a group of Congress members in DC later this year to try to push it as well. The idea was initially proposed by Nobel Laureate Betty Williams so we will be communicating with her as well to make sure our plan for allocation is in line with hers.
