Make Poverty History
Eliminating Extreme Poverty
What specific problem does this project address? We wish to " remind governments and policy makers of their promise to end poverty inequality and hunger.
The promise to stop children dying from preventable diseases.
The promise to ensure basic education for all children, particularly girls.
The promise to stop women dying during pregnancy and childbirth.
The promise to provide water and sanitation and to protect the environment. "
What research was done for this project? We perused the Action Kit provided and did further research to examine their facts and biases.

STAND UP “ Pledge ”
We are standing now with millions around the world on this day to show our commitment to the fight against
extreme poverty and inequality.
We are standing because we refuse to accept more excuses in a world where 50,000 people die every day as a
result of extreme poverty and the gap between rich and poor is getting wider.
We are standing because we want our leaders to honour their promises to meet the Millennium Development
Goals – and we ask them to exceed these goals.
We join in solidarity with people from hundreds of countries to say: To the leaders of the wealthy countries
– We urge you to keep your promises on poverty – debt cancellation, more and better aid, trade justice and
gender equality.
To the leaders of poorer countries – make it your first responsibility to save the lives of your poorest citizens.
We ask you to tackle inequality, to be accountable to your people, to govern fairly and justly, to fight corruption
and to fulfill human rights.
Today, and every day, we will STAND UP and TAKE ACTION against poverty.
We will continue the fight against poverty and inequality and to hold our leaders to their promises.
We are asking not for charity but for justice. We are millions of voices standing in solidarity to say,
no more excuses - end poverty now.
How was this project decided upon? This project has many of the same goals as PeaceJam. We will be assembled for our Climate Change conference so it is an opportunity to increase our commitment to reducing poverty and inequality.
How will this project remain ongoing? The project will be over in one day, but there is an opportunity to repeat it each year on World Food Day.
How is this project going to make a difference? By asking students to stand up and take the pledge, we are raising awareness of our government's pledge to assist those in poverty. Perhaps this awareness will lead to greater citizenship participation in working towards these goals. We registered 200 students and staff Standing UP. The World-wide organization broke the Guinness Record. Some students from other schools joined us.
