Project Goal: We want to learn more about the debate on climate change to better understand the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference 2009 (COP 15). To do this, we want to host a Considering Climate Change Conference.
Root Cause: Citizens of the world are contributing to the build up of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. It is being trapped in the ozone layer and increasing the "protective blanket" around the earth. This is trapping heat that is radiated back to the land and water. The temperature of the earth is rising and causing changes in weather patterns and melting of ice. This theory is not without controversy.
Project Plan: In mid-October we will host a student climate change conference with an international speaker. It could be a half day or day long event. This is very timely as the world leaders will be attending the Copenhagen Conference on Climate change from Dec. 7 to 18th. We will invite other schools to send their middle school students to attend learning sessions and engage in a dialogue to reduce our individual and collective carbon footprints. We will also encourage the delegates to form climate change groups in their schools to continue to focus awareness and action on this issue. |
