Project Goal: To raise global awarness about the extreme poverty in Africa and provide aid particularly to deaf and blind children. Day without Hate aims to end school violence and discrimination within schools.

Root Cause: The lack of care and attention deaf and blind children have to suffer through in day to day life. The Columbine and Virginia Tech shootings have inspired students, and teachers, to step up and try to combat school violence and hate within schools.

Project Plan: For Africa Night: First semester is focused on raising awarness and promoting this one night. On this one night, there is a video that brings up the true hardships faced by children, and adults in Africa. In previous years we have raised awarness about child soldiers and have shown the documentaries by Invisible Children. Guest speakers are also invited to come and share their story. Last year, Aruk from the Lost Boys came to speak about beeing forced to flee his homeland after seeing his family murdered and how life in the US has been. During the eveing we promote $10 dollar day which is the following Friday. This is the one day we ask every student and staff member to donate $10. Last year we raised $3, 047 for the 1010 project. The organization we donate the money to is rebuilding a school for the deaf and blind in Kenya, Africa. The money raised from our school goes directly to buying materials for the school. Second Semester is when the club begins to focus on Day without Hate. This will be the fifth year this event will take place. The goal of the day is to promote a unity and put an end to school violence. Last year this event went district wide, with more then 50 schools participating, including elementary and middle schools. The day consisits of activites within each school. Activities such as letters of ammends, or passing period challenges such as say hi to someone you have never met before. Also, each student is asked to wear white, or buy a whiter t-shirt with a desgin on it to show that everyone can come together for this one day. All the proceeds are donated to the Never Forgotten Memorial which is in remembrance of the Columbime Victims. Hopefully by continuing to spread this day without hate we can help put an end to school violence.
