Project Goal: Risley's Student Government/PeaceJam Team will be hosting a Valentine's Dance on Friday, Feb. 12, as a fun ending to their "LOVE IS RESPECT" campaign. February is the National Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (www.loveisrespect.org), and Risley students will participate in this campaign by creating awareness posters that state teen dating violence statistics, informative quotes, and resources for those seeking help. At the dance, the students will have several fundraisers and a portion of the proceeds will go towards Haiti relief efforts.

Root Cause: Violence (verbal, physical, and emotional) in teen dating relationships! According to www.loveisrespect.org, " One in five teens who have been in a serious relationship report being hit, slapped, or pushed by a partner."

Project Plan: An awareness campaign and school Valentine's Day dance that focuses on the theme "LOVE IS RESPECT." At the dance Student Government will raise money by taking couple/friend pictures and by selling tickets for a "Mystery Raffle." The funds raised will be used for Student Government's/PeaceJam's future projects, including a donation to Haiti relief efforts.
