Currently, I volunteer for Big Bend Homeless Coalition through FSU's Oxfam International where I prepare and serve meals on Sundays. I'm a part of FSU Catholic Student Union where I am a retreat team leader for the Spring retreat coming up in February and I'm on the Respect Life Committee, where we attend conferences about genocide, abortion, stem cell research, and many life related topics. I enjoy participating in the March for Life in Washington DC every year. I'm secretary of FSU Campus Girl Scouts and an intern for the Girl Scout Council of the Florida Panhandle where we put on leadership/service/educational events for youth, usually girls. One of my main service interests for the past 6 years is working with the youth. In high school, I was a peer leader at my parish's youth group working with middle school kids weekly, then when I was an upperclassman I became a peer leader for high school kids. Additionally, I became a peer leader St Leo Abbey Retreat Center from 10th grade (2005) until fall 2009 where I volunteered many weekends during the year on weekend retreats to develop team building and leadership for young middle school and high school kids as well as volunteering in the summer for two weeklong retreats. Also in my hometown, I volunteered at Explorations V Children's Museum where I helped organize public educational events for youth age 2-10. Previously, my interest in service also stemmed from doing a homeless tent retreat at my church parish in 2005, which brought awareness to social justice issues focusing on poverty, hunger, and the homeless community. Soon after, I spent several spring breaks in high school volunteering at the Gainesville Catholic Worker House, which was a halfway home for homeless people to transition back into a normal lifestyle. Most importantly, my first two experiences going to the homeless tent retreat and the Gainesville Catholic Worker House opened me up to the world around me and how much I could do to give my time, talent, and heart to do service work. As the years went by I realized this is the career path I would like to take as well. I'm currently an International Affairs and Political Science major and I'm interested in working with non-profit organizations who share my same beliefs in promoting the youth, the poor, and human rights.
