South Africa Trip!
posted 1/11/2010 at 7:00 PM by Krista M
This album includes photos from my trip to South Africa in summer 2009 where I completed a volunteer project for 6 weeks. I worked at a skills development center teaching children and adults with learning disabilities math and English. I also worked at a home based care organization for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, so I had the opportunity to speak with hospital social workers and nurses, visit community clinics and hospitals, and visit patients and their families in their homes. I also volunteered after work with a sports outreach program. This was a great experience because I was able to play sports with the children in my community!

It was through the "serviceship" scholarship through Florida State University. Six people were selected and we all went to different areas of the world and did different volunteer projects. Each of us was responsible for deciding what agency to use, where to go, and what to do. It was an incredible experience!
