A Proclamation from John W. Hickenlooper,
Mayor of the City of Denver
WHEREAS, September 15, 16 and
17th mark the celebration of the 10th anniversary
of the PeaceJam Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Almost 500,000 teenagers
worldwide have participated in the PeaceJam program
since its inception in Denver, Colorado in 1996,
and more than 300,000 service projects have been
developed and implemented by those youth in that
time; and
WHEREAS, 3,000 international
youth are preparing to join together with the
largest gathering of Nobel Peace Laureates in
U.S. history for three days in order to launch
a Global Call to Action for the youth of the world;
and
WHEREAS, We honor these young
people for striving to create a more tolerant,
more educated and more peaceful future for mankind,
just as we honor the Nobel Peace Laureates who
so generously share their experiences, wisdom
and knowledge with young people through PeaceJam;
and
WHEREAS, These proactive young
people and the Nobel Peace Laureates who help
them along the way are inspirations in the movement
to create peace one community at a time, with
the final goal of recognizing one final peaceful
world community.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN W. HICKENLOOPER,
MAYOR of the City and County of Denver,
Colorado, by virtue of the authority vested in
me, do hereby officially proclaim September 2006
to be known hereafter as:
