Tutu calls economic crisis a moral issue
Posted 7/16/2010 at 4:59 PM by Kate P in Laureates News
Archbishop Desmond Tutu spoke out last week about the current economic crisis during the presentation of a report on globalization.

Tutu wrote:
"The countries most responsible for devastating changes are the least vulnerable to the consequences, of which the price is being paid by the poor and the weak."

The report, compiled by Uniting Reformed Church of South Africa theologian the Rev. Allan Boesak and the Rev. Johann Weusmann of the Evangelical Reformed Church in Germany, is called "Dreaming a Different World."

The report highlights the effects globalization on a developing country.

"We all have just one world … Unless we work out a way to live together, we will end up at the bottom of the pit together," Tutu said.

That's a good point. We live in a very interconnected world and the financial crisis in the rich countries hurts poor people all around the world.

Absolutely, which is why I'm glad that the historic financial reform passed last week. Hopefully it will prevent another meltdown like this most recent one.
