As part of the 2012 Youth Conference, Great Lakes PeaceJammers planned and participated in a worldwide day of volunteering, Global Youth Service Day!

The Great Lakes PeaceJam service project mobilized 138 high school teens, 28 college students, and 32 adult volunteers in service projects at 10 sites in Kalamazoo completing a combined total of 594 hours.

The projects were planned by a collaborative group of youth (from the Youth United Way and Kalamazoo Central) and adult staff members (at Seeding Change and the Volunteer Center of Kalamazoo) who identified the focus areas, reached out to community partners, and wrote this grant application. The primary focus was on environmental stewardship, with secondary focuses on education and health, with an effort to build projects that combined one or more of these areas.
