New Haven Citizen December 2, 2011 by Christine Schwartz
"Recently, four eighth grade students, Emma Buck, Alexandra James, Peyton Rowland and Rachel Savenelli represented the North Haven Middle School Peace Jam Club by attending the 2011 PeaceJam Northeast Slam at Worthington Hooker School in New Haven. The event was made available to students from grades 8 to 12, involved with PeaceJam. The students had the opportunity to hear the dynamic keynote speaker, Cheryl Perera, founder and president of OneChild, an international youth movement which is geared toward inspiring youth to take action against the exploitation of children. They also participated in team building activities and attended a thought provoking workshop entitled, “We Are the World, We Are the Children,” which was focused on the empowerment of youth. PeaceJam fosters the belief that the inspiration of Nobel Peace Laureates, combined with the education and action components of PeaceJam education programs serve as a catalyst for a new generation of young leaders to commit to personal change, and being a force for change in their communities and the world."
