A Nobel Peace Prize winner was the first person to sign a petition calling for a ban on controversial crossbows being sold in a city centre shop.

Betty Williams, who has spent much of her life campaigning against violence in Northern Ireland, was “shocked” at discovering the crossbows on sale at Barkers in Sunbridge Road, Bradford, alongside Samurai swords, knuckle dusters, air pistols and other weaponry.

City centre priest the Reverend Chris Howson has demanded the “deeply offensive” weapons are removed from display.

Huh. I wish they had a quote from the shopkeeper saying why they want to sell the crossbows. Seems unnecessary and archaic. Would people need to get a permit? Register possession of a crossbow?
