Flobots.org is thrilled to announce its new community center, opening in the Larimer Street arts district on June 12. The center is home to the Fight with Tools program, which Flobots created to harness the positive energy of music fans in Denver and across the country.
The opening of the community center marks an exciting period of growth for Flobots.org, a non-profit organization created by the Denver-based band Flobots in August of 2008. The center will feature an eclectic mix of programming that reflects the energy, diversity and challenges of modern Denver, including speakers and workshops, art exhibitions, children’s programs and live performances. Through partnerships and collaboration, the center will serve as a resource to others working for positive change.
Please help Flobots celebrate the new space and imagine its future during an open house on Friday, June 12, from 6-9 pm, 2705 Larimer Street. Refreshments and snacks will be served. The event will feature music by Rob Drabkin and Serafin Sanchez, as well as a performance by students from Live from DCH!, a music therapy program created at the Denver Children’s Home by Flobots.org. ABOUT FLOBOTS.ORG For the Denver-based Flobots, activism and art have always been intertwined. Since its inception, the band has encouraged fans to engage in voter registration and other community efforts. In 2008, when Flobots achieved artistic and commercial success with the politically charged hit song “Handlebars,” they decided to take their activism to a national stage. Flobots.org builds communities of musicians and music fans who are inspired to create positive change in their relationships, themselves and their world. More than 5,000 people have registered profiles on the Fight with Tools social networking site (http://www.fightwithtools.org). Across the country, more than 100 Fight with Tools street teams meet regularly to develop leadership skills and perform service projects in their communities. In Denver, Flobots.org has served scores of young people through its music therapy program at Denver Children’s Home, which will expand in 2009. Flobots.org is currently developing partnerships with a number of youth and service organizations, including Progressive Veterans, Labyrinth Arts Academy, CityWild and FightWithFood, as well as other bands and artists from Denver and across the country. Last year, Flobots.org's founding members were awarded the Circles of Change award from Seeking Common Ground. In March, Flobots.org received the Cesar Chavez Leadership Award. Flobots.org has been featured at numerous conferences on social justice, leadership and sustainable living. This summer, FightWithTools.org will re-launch with dynamic new features, including monthly, multi-media challenges and activities designed to encourage civic engagement. Users will connect closely to one another to create sustainable communities both on- and offline.
