Fidel Castro Warns of Imminent Nuclear War Between U.S. & Iran

Fidel Castro has warned that the United States will cause a nuclear attack from Iran with the new set of sanctions placed upon the Middle Eastern country. The former president of the Republic of Cuba has been gaining international attention for the comments he recently wrote in a blog post.

Reuters wrote:
"The empire is at the point of committing a terrible error that nobody can stop. It advances inexorably toward a sinister fate," he wrote on July 5.

The "empire" is how Castro usually refers to the United States, his bitter foe from the time he took power in Cuba in a 1959 revolution.

He said he has reached his dire conclusion based in part on "observing what happened, as the political leader that I was during many years, confronting the empire, its blockades and its unspeakable crimes."

I really don't believe that the U.S. will go to nuclear war with Iran soon, or anytime for that matter. I think this may be the case of an old man who misses the spotlight. I think the reason he's gotten all this attention is because of the "what if he's right?" question that lingers on the minds of many. The media, in their quest to be the first to break a story and gain readers/listeners/viewers, love situations like this, where some person who may have credibility warns of catastrophe. The reason it's not receiving a more attention is because of its source, which many consider unreliable.

Excellent points, Bradlee. The threat of nuclear war is always something that receives media attention. I hope that you are right and this is just Castro wanting the spotlight again.

Yes - I hate that comments that are seem to be primarily reactionary get so much media buzz.

Great analysis, Brad -- I don't think this is inevitable, at all!
