A sign the recently resumed talks between China and the Dalai Lama aren't going so well, His Holiness recently had some pointed words for China.

Ashwini Bhatia, The Associated Press wrote:
The Dalai Lama lashed out at China on Wednesday, accusing it of trying to "annihilate Buddhism" in Tibet and rebuffing all his efforts to reach a compromise over the disputed Himalayan region.

Unsurprisingly, the superpower responded:

Ashwini Bhatia, The Associated Press wrote:
China shot back, accusing the Tibetan spiritual leader of using deceptions and lies to distort its policy in the region. The passionate back-and-forth highlighted the distrust, anger and frustration that separates the two sides and leaves little hope for success in recently resumed talks.

I just don't understand this. What is China's interest in that region anyway? And the despicable use of cultural destruction as a means to gain power and territory is just...beyond words. I know it's not always the road the Dalai Lama takes to make such a statement, but I am honestly excited that he did.

I'm pretty surprised too because His Holiness is always very reserved when it comes to criticizing China, but I'm happy he did too. Frankly I'm not sure it matters what the Chinese interest is in that area. What matters is what they are doing is just purely sick. It's very similar to what the government of Iran is doing to it's people. Sometimes they are just so sick that there really is no logic behind their actions! It's sad but it's true!

This is a frustrating article and situtaion. First of all, the Dalia Lama doesn't lie. So China needs to know that and know that everyone else knows that. He has an international reputation as a man of peace and great patience. I mean, even if he was lying, people are still going to believe him because he has proven himself to be trustworthly. I also found it really interesting that China was mad at him for meeting with the U.S., because wasn't upsetting China the same reason that Obama postponed his meeting with Dalia Lama. This shows that China is just being a bully. They want their way, without question, but I think they are actually proving the point of the Dalia Lama. All their actions and the fact that they have a ban on protests that are anti-China just show that they are trying to control and restrict the freedom of not only their own people, but of the Tibetan people and their leader. It is like argueing with a person who always yells, never listens, does not really have good point, yet continues to insist that they are right.
