Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, the 1980 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, takes time to speak about social change in Latin America, Global Politics and his involvement in the movement to create an International Court of the Environment:

Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, IPS News wrote:
The area of human rights focuses more on damages to "persons" than to "peoples" as a whole. In 1976, the International League for the Rights and Liberation of Peoples proclaimed the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Peoples. I believe that efforts must be focused on addressing the damages to indigenous peoples, to entire populations, caused by water and air pollution.

I'm really glad I read this - I don't know where I've been, but I was unaware of the movement to create an International Court of the environment. What an incredibly relevant idea - way to go Adolfo!

Q: Is Latin America still important to Washington?

A: Even though it has had to focus on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the United States has never stopped keeping an eye on Latin America. As soon as any country starts getting out from under the United States' thumb, it finds itself at loggerheads with the U.S., like what has happened in the case of Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador or Argentina.

One of my favorite things about the Nobel Peace Laureates, unless they are a current head of state, is they so freely express what's wrong with the U.S. The United States has been involved in some terrible events and policies, but so many are afraid to say so. It's refreshing when a leaders calls it like it is.
