Spiegel Online International has an article about our own Betty Williams and Jody Williams taking a stand against the Iranian Government as world tensions heat up with the country.

Can 44 Nobel Prize winners be wrong?

The group of Nobel laureates, which included such luminaries as Nobel Peace laureates Betty Williams and Jody Williams, the writer Wole Soyinka and the economist James Heckman, as well as many leading figures from the fields of medicine, chemistry and physics, made a dramatic appeal in a full-page ad published in the International Herald Tribune on Feb. 9. "Dear President Obama, President Sarkozy, President Medvedev, Prime Minister Brown and Chancellor Merkel," it began. "How long can we stand idly by and watch this scandal in Iran unfold?"

Check out the very interesting read here.

This is great. But President Obama is not God, and has already failed may of us in many ways. Unfortunately he has not "thrown his full support behind the opposition protesters", and he has only shown interest in nuclear talks/sanctions. Never taking what Shirin Ebadi and the other Nobel Peace Laureates have repeatedly asked for in to account: Do not make any negotiations with just the nuclear talks on the table, human rights needs to be at the forefront of all negotiations with Iran. But again, I am not surprised since this has been President Obama's approach with China too. For as long as we need these countries to do our bidding for us (and we need them to) because we either need their oil or simply owe them so much in the case of China, we can certainly look away from all the human rights violations they commit! This is something the people of Iran will have to do by themselves for themselves. And they are proudly giving their lives for it because they want their freedom that bad and it means that much to them. They've realized that the world has simply forgotten about them for the past 30 years and that if anything changes it will be through their own power and bravery and that is exactly what they are doing!
