Twelve political prisoners were freed by order of judges of the First Court of Mexico’s High Tribunal yesterday. The case had gained international recognition that lead to a campaign for their release and last week 11 Nobel Laureates called on the President of Mexico to release the prisoners.
BBC News wrote: The activists were serving long prison terms for the alleged kidnapping of police officers during a protest in the town of San Salvador Atenco in 2006.
But the judges found there had been no real evidence against them. |

Jody Williams was in the court room when the judges made their announcements and made a comment afterward:
Jody Williams, The Narco News Bulletin wrote: “At last, to the people of Atenco who have suffered so much, there comes a hope of justice. I am going to inform my fellow Nobel Peace Prize laureates, above all Desmond Tutu, who is right now praying for the people of Atenco.” |
