IDEAS FOR HELPING HAITI

As we all watch the devestation in Haiti, we are saying to our selves and our friends, "How can I help?"

Here are some great ways for PeaceJammers to get involved and get the people of Haiti - NOW!

Our partner, Youth Service America, has posted some easy ways for us all to get involved. Check out link below for ideas!
Ideas for Helping Haiti

Be sure to post your projects here on the PeaceJam site so we can support each other's efforts and get good ideas from each other.

According ot Youth Service America, "The United States is mounting an aggressive, comprehensive response to the tragedy, offering civilian and military disaster relief and humanitarian assistance. The Corporation is coordinating with the State Department, USAID, FEMA, and other agencies as the U.S. government develops a unified response.

According to the State Department, the best way to help the people of Haiti right now is to give money. Your donation can save lives. (click the link above to see their suggestions for organizations to donate to)

According to USAID, while monetary donations are preferred to commodity contributions, there may be rare instances when a commodity contribution would be of value to relief operations.

At this time, volunteer opportunities are extremely limited to people with prior disaster experience and technical skills (such as health, engineering, etc). If you have the expertise needed, you can register your skills and experience for a possible volunteer opportunity at the Center for International Disaster Information's registration page."

I know most youth don't have a lot of money to donate, organizing fundraisers would be a great to earn money!

My church has sponsored an ongoing mission to Haiti and a sister church in Haiti for many years now... I am going to help Haiti by supporting my church's efforts... it is a good way to get aid directly to the people there through a well-established network!

Our PJ group will package 10,000 meals in February through Stop Hunger Now. Our packaging will be part of 1 million meals that will be sent to Haiti. Stop Hunger Now has 1 million meals sitting at the dock in Miami ready to be shipped to Haiti. Remember 1 quarter=1 meal, so if you have people who want to help and don't know how they can donate to Stop Hunger Now. Check out www.stophungernow.org

Kate, I can't get the "Ideas for Helping Haiti" link to work on this page. When I click it it redirects me to my gmail account. Any ideas?
