PeaceJam BotTree Planting!

Project Created: Tuesday, November 03, 2009

Project Leader: Chanti C

Location: Corvallis, United States of America

Project Goal: To help shade Corvallis Streets, improve bird habitat, reduce our carbon and water footprints, and make Corvallis a better place to live.

Project Cause: Environmental neglect/Lack of awareness about ecological issues.

Project Plan: There will be two tree planting sessions offered -- we hope to not only give youth the opportunity to learn practical skills (tree planting techniques -- a good skill to have!), but also to be actively engaged in their communities, and foster greater awareness about problems/solutions in their own communities.

Bradlee AThis is really, really exciting! All I can think about is taking photographs of it. And how much fun it will be.

Chanti CUpdate: Last Saturday, we planted 28 trees in residential neighborhoods in Corvallis! We're planning on planting at least 20 more this upcoming Saturday around downtown businesses and the central park.

The Marys Peak Group (MPG) of the Sierra Club is a major contributor to this project and is running a program called "Eco-Credits."

Everyone that shows up to work will earn one Eco-Credit.

These Eco-Credits can be accumulated and redeemed in one of four ways, the coolest of which being:

+ MPG will donate $1 for each Eco-credit toward another native Willamette Valley Tree (Corvallis is in the Willamette Valley) to be purchased and planted locally. This $1 will be matched by another private party, to double its value.

Theresa KThat is so many trees! And Eco-credit sounds like a great system to raise money.
