PeaceJam BotSulfur Springs Creek Cleanup

Project Created: Monday, May 25, 2009

Project Leader: Alan C

Location: Corvallis, United States of America

Project Goal: Trash cleanup and trail clearing with an emphasis on safety and accessibility for elementary age or younger youth at Sulfur Springs Recreational Area.

Project Cause: If children are not given opportunities to experience self-guided play in natural settings, they are less likely to appreciate the needs of the natural world when they are grown. Safe areas of play, without worry of broken glass or debris, need to be easily accessible to these youngsters to play in, not just well manicured playgrounds with artificial play structures.

Project Plan: Designate quarterly dates to gather friends and family to spend half a day:
- Picking up garbage
- Clearing natural debris
- Trimming foliage from trails

Then assessing needs for new trails, improving stream for youngster exploration, creating maps to follow, plant matching games, etc.

- Creating user surveys and volunteer opportunity sign ups for visitors of the recreation area.
