Hi Everyone. I'm Angelie and I'm a political science and dietetics double major.
I mentor PeaceJam Juniors at Hartsfield Elementary.
I knew I wanted to be involved in PeaceJam for a couple of reasons. What grabbed my attention was how different PeaceJam is from any other program I have been exposed too. The concept is very fresh and I really like that quality. Also, I fervently believe in working face-to-face with those I'm trying to affect and I'm very thankful for the opportunity to do so with the center and PeaceJam.
My kids are in the third grade and are all labeled to be remedial students. However, they are really intelligent despite what the school system has labeled them to be. In the short months that I have been with them,I have seen them become increasingly more invested in the material and improve overall with their reading abilities.
I would like to be a mentor for the PeaceJam conference for numerous reasons. Even though my PeaceJam Juniors can't attend the conference, I would still lake the opportunity to positively affect the learning and lives of high school students. I would also like to learn from the conference myself so that I may become a better mentor in my PeaceJam Juniors classroom.
So there's my mini PeaceJam story. I hope to see you all at the conference or around campus.
Take Care, Angelie. |
