Project Created: Sunday, February 14, 2010

Project Leader: Marianne R

Location: Stony Plain, Canada

Project Goal: To participate in the world-wide initiative: MAKE POVERTY HISTORY - the vehicle for demonstrating that Canadians care about more and better aid, fair trade, debt cancellation and ending poverty in Canada.
MAKE POVERTY HISTORY is part of the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) a coalition involving about 100 countries that aims to end the injustice of poverty. It is the largest anti-poverty movement in history.
In Canada, MAKE POVERTY HISTORY is a coalition of more than 1000 development NGOs, labour unions, antipoverty groups and religious organizations. The coalition seeks to ensure the Canadian Government delivers more and better aid, debt cancellation, trade justice, an end to poverty in Canada, action on climate change and honours commitments made to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a global plan to halve poverty by 2015.
Their goal is break the Guinness World Record for the "largest mobilization".

Project Cause: poverty and inequality.
The STAND UP campaign strives to remind governments and policy makers of their promise to end poverty inequality and hunger.
The promise to stop children dying from preventable diseases.
The promise to ensure basic education for all children, particularly girls.
The promise to stop women dying during pregnancy and childbirth.
The promise to provide water and sanitation and to protect the environment.

Project Plan: Utilizing the resource guide provided by this group, we will stage an action to raise awareness about poverty and encourage everyone to sign the petition.
"How to STAND UP & TAKE ACTION 2009? (paraphrased)
We came together at your High Park School on October 16th, 209 and joined millions
of people around the globe who will STAND UP and TAKE ACTION… Against Poverty!
We will refuse to stay seated or silent in the face of poverty and broken promises to end it!
We hope to encourage the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals, on World Food Day.
We advertise the event and invite parents to join us on the day.
We will gather in the gym and listen to what standing up means and review the Millennium Development Goals.
We will invite all those that wish to do so to stand together and take the pledge (below). We will take a photo of this event and post it to the Stand Up website http://makepovertyhistory.ca/g8 .
We will count up the number of participants and report it to STand Up.
