PeaceJam BotHelping Haiti

Project Created: Wednesday, January 27, 2010

Project Leader: Jennifer A

Location: South Windsor, United States of America

Project Goal: Contribute money to Haitian Health Foundation to assist Haitians during their time of crisis.

Project Cause: Haiti has a history of extreme poverty and lack of access to natural resources. Since the devestating earthquake, their needs have intensified. SWHS PeaceJam will provide monetary support to help a reputable non profit bring relief to the people of Haiti.

Project Plan: During SWHS spirit week, SWHS Peacejammers will hang up a map of Haiti encouraging their classmates to purchase mardi gras beads where the proceeds will benefit the Haitian Health Foundation. For every bead purchased, a water droplet will hang on the map so students can visualize the difference they are making.

Jasmin MThis sounds like a great project. And I love the idea of the visual so that everyone can see what their work is doing. Which non-profit will you be working with?

Kate PI agree with Jasmin, a great idea for a project and very timely! Let us know how it goes!

Camila MThis is great!
The Haitian Health Foundation sounds like an incredible organization. In fact, your group might also be interested in participating with Connecticut Walks for Haiti. They are holding a walk-a-thon on April 10th with the proceeds going to 6 different organizations that work with Haiti, The Haitian Health Foundation is one of them. I know they are looking to get youth/schools involved in the walk so I would recommend looking into that as well.
Best of luck, and if you need any support, feel free to get in touch with Chrissa Dean or myself, PeaceJam Northeast's VISTAs.

Ioana BGreat idea!

Health is really important at the moment, my good friend who is an EMT and attends USF went over to help out with doctors from even France and other places.

Keep us posted on what we can do too. =)
