PeaceJam BotGreystone Challenge Day

Project Created: Tuesday, March 09, 2010

Project Leader: jollyrogers

Location: Spruce Grove, Canada

Project Goal: To create and maintain a school where every student feels safe, celebrated and loved.
To encourage students to notice * choose * act in order to build better communication between and amongst students and staff.
The program is a means to empower students to create positive change in their school.

Project Cause: Since part of the focus of this project was to address issues of bullying within the school, it goes without saying that bullying was a root cause. The students and teachers had observed innumerable examples of bullying, and we felt that it was necessary to take a bigger step to show students that there is a better way to be in our classrooms; that it is possible to go to school and be ourselves without fear of rejection, and that the power to make those changes is within the students themselves.

Project Plan: Greystone Centennial Middle School
Project Leader: Jessica Scalzo
To invite representatives from the RCMP, Fire Department, Victim Services, Family and Community Support Services, Big Sisters and Big Brothers, as well as the Spruce Grove Safe City Coordinator to facilitate sessions for student information at the school. The day is to be presented to our grade eights. As a group, everyone will participate in a variety of engaging team building activities and meaningful discussions around the many issues that our adolescents face: oppression, abuse, gender roles, stereotyping, bullying, racism, and violence.

Shelly PGreat project! This age is so hard to go through. Kids can be straight up mean. It's wonderful that you are spreading the awareness throughout your school to create a peaceful environment.
