Project Created: Monday, June 01, 2009

Project Leader: Megan K

Location: Denver, United States of America

Project Goal: To address clicks, fights and stereotypes at Denver School of the Arts middle School. DSA's PeaceJam group is very active and wanted to host a PeaceJam conference for their middle school in order to provide them with the skills needed to better understand themselves and other students.

Project Cause: There was a lot of division among the 8th grade class at DSA because the students were not taking the time to get to know and learn about their classmates. By hosting a PeaceJam conference, the 8th grade class was split up into mentor groups and challenged to make new friends and get to know new faces, without passing judgment.

Project Plan: For months the students researched the problem. Was it just a few students causing fights, or was the problem deeper?
Thankfully all the 8th grade teachers were on board and the school administration! The event took place on a late start day and consisted of 35 DSA High School PJ volunteers, PeaceJam affiliate support and served over 110 8th graders!
