PeaceJam BotEqual Access to water for People living in the slums of Dharamsala

Project Created: Sunday, May 24, 2009

Project Leader: Tenzin L

Location: Dharamsala, India

Project Goal: To give equal access to water for local slum dwellers

Project Cause: Due to contamination, privatization, and climate change, over 4 billion people will be affected by water shortages and lack of clean drinking water by 2050.

Project Plan: We mapped the flow of drinking water from its source to lower Dharamsala – took notes and pictures of pipes and conditions around them. We talked to government officials in Himachal. Pradesh and city of Dharamsala and to local people using the water. We conducted water testing at various points along the route. We checked a Tibetan hospital for counts of water born diseases and diarrhea.

Tenzin LHello all, I really don't know how to start! I had like to rewind myself back to the first day. That time, we were getting ready for our national class 12 exam and it was driving us crazy. When we were first told of the idea, I was like listening to some kind of script. It was hard to believe and to be true, it still pictures to me like a dream.

Firstly, I would like express my most humble thanks to H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama for everything! Without him, we will never be ever near to where we are for now...long live our living Buddha! Then, my sincere thanks go to PeaceJam for knocking us with the opportunity of a life time! My special thanks go to Brett, Acha Penpa, Dave and Laurel! Thank you for bearing crazy yet boring people like us!
I will write more later!!!
Never Give up in life and Just do it!!!

Jes WHey Loden!
Great to see and hear from you! I only got to meet you for a short while in Los Angeles at the large PeaceJam conference, but I am constantly using your project as an example for youth across the Rocky Mountain Region.

Thanks for all you do and I look forward to hearing more from you in the Global PeaceJam Community!
