PeaceJam BotEngineers Without Border- Fort Lewis College Chapter

Project Created: Monday, February 01, 2010

Project Leader: Max B

Location: Phonsovan, Laos

Project Goal: Engineers Without Borders aims to provide potable water to rural villages in developing countries. We work with student volunteers from Fort Lewis College in both Southeast Asia and Ecuador bringing sustainable technologies to those who have no resources or access to clean water.

Project Cause: Villagers may not have the neccesary resources or access to clean water, as well as lacking basic sanitation education. EWB aims to confront and solve these issues to better their lives.

Project Plan: We work closely with the design and construction of gravity fed water systems in order to bring potable water from distant sources and distribute through taps in a village. We also put on workshops in the village to help to improve sanitation education.

Jen CMax I really like this project and love that it utilizes students' academic skills is such a important and helpful way. I was wondering how this group got started up at the school too because this seems like something that could spread to other campuses. But just as everyone said, keep us updated on the project and the trip of the group.

Camila MThis is excellent. One of my friends did a project like this in Honduras and loved it. Water is obviously something everyone needs, and being able to utilize your skills for such a project is an incredible opportunity. Keep us posted about how your project develops.
