PeaceJam BotECycling - Ponderosa High School

Project Created: Tuesday, June 23, 2009

Project Leader: Debbie R

Location: Parker, United States of America

Project Goal: To plan and facilitate an electronics recycling event.

Project Cause: Many people dispose of household electronics by putting those items in a landfill because they don't know how or where to safely dispose of them.

Project Plan: Learn about what types of household electronics can be recycled and provide an event where community members can bring those items. Acted on the executive planning committee - planned logistics, taped a commercial, helped inform community members, designed a poster.

Andy MAre you guys finally pulling this one together? I know the idea had been around for awhile, but it didn't get far. It's a great idea.

Amber SThis is a great event - has it already happened or will it happen in the future? I have gotten really into cell phone recycling this year because I have been learning about coltan - the mineral in many electronics that is largely mined in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The great thing about cell phone recycling is that by cutting back demand for new phones we can cut back demand for coltan - hence keeping dollars away from fueling conflicts and endangering mountain gorilla habitat - not to mention cutting down on harmful e-waste in landfills. Plus if you are a non-profit you can fund raise through cell phone recycling!

Anyway, long tangent. I get really excited about cell phone recycling ;) If the event hasn't happened yet maybe we could talk about cell phone recycling or maybe I can help in some way.
