PeaceJam BotBenefit for Haiti

Project Created: Friday, May 21, 2010

Project Leader: Linda S

Location: Eugene, United States

Project Goal: Students at Monroe Middle School PeaceJam chose to do a project to benefit the earthquake victims in Haiti. They recognize that this event touches several global issues including eliminating extreme poverty, access to clean water and providing basic needs for the people affected by the tragedy.

Project Cause: The root cause of the immediate problem is the earthquake, but the extreme poverty of the people created tragic results.

Project Plan: Students have researched different aid agencies. They checked the effectiveness of the agencies before deciding on the two that they want to donate to. We will be having an international dinner and dessert as well as a silent auction. Restaurants in the Eugene area have donated food for the event. Local businesses have donated items and gift certificates for the silent auction. We have presented the issues to classrooms throughout our building to raise awareness about the continuing issues in Haiti. We have also put a notice in our news letter and on our website telling about our event. All proceeds will be donated to the agencies chosen by the students.

Alan CWay to go Monroe Middle School!

I really like how thorough your project is. It wasn't just one activity, but you explored what you could do locally in many different avenues and got a large variety of businesses and individuals involved. I really also liked that you researched the organizations involved before deciding on which to support.

Be sure to let us all know the results of your project!
