Camila MWow, that's insane. I wonder how many states don't have any laws in place regarding sexual harassment due to sexual orientation.

Pantea BDerek where can I learn more about this law? For us here in Colorado, up until Governor Ritter came to office 3 years ago an employer could legally fire an employee in the state of Colorado due to their sexual orientation. Thankfully that was one of the first laws that Gov. Ritter changed upon taking office.

Jasmin MDerek, I'm glad to hear that you are tackling this issue. There should be laws against all discrimination, including that based on sexual orientation.

Does the new hate crimes law signed into effect a few months ago trump state laws? Missouri (and Michigan and all of the others) might be violating federal law if they continue to discriminate based on orientation. Of course, I guess there's the distinction between not actively discriminating and offering real protection. All I know is that a) this bill was the first time the word "transgender" ever appeared in federal legislation, which is cool and way too late, and b) I sobbed so hard when Obama signed it that I couldn't convince my swim team parents that I was actually happy. Good luck Derek!
