PeaceJam BotA Day in Rags

Project Created: Monday, February 22, 2010

Project Leader: eugenio_paul

Location: Tallahassee, Florida

Project Goal: Our goal is to spread awareness of the growing homeless population in our community, and to dismiss many common myths about homelessness-- through our website and documentary film.

Project Cause: The homeless are often thought as drunks and drug addicts who wasted their life away, when in fact most of the homeless population is no different than you or I. These myths surrounding the homeless create a segregating aura which makes most people feel afraid or distant, much like if the person they were standing next to was an alien or criminal.

Project Plan: We hope to separate our film into three slices:
1) General Information, Introductions, Myths, etc.
2) Interviews with different homeless people-- What they did before they became homeless? How they became homeless? How they have faired living in a world where they are segregated and misunderstood.
3) Homeless Simulations where we dress up in rags and ask for food or money and where we sleep in a park in order to gain an understanding of what it is like to be homeless.

Pantea BPaul this sounds great! I love using the power of film to raise awareness. It reaches so many people in so many different ways! When I was in college I grabbed a camera and went to interview some of the homeless people around our campus for a project I was doing. They were regular people with feelings, hopes, and dreams like the rest of us. But for each of them it was an event in their life that pushed them over the edge and they weren't quit able to come out of it yet. I will be looking for your film and the progress of your project.
