The Veterans of Hope project is a multifaceted educational and leadership development initiative based on the campus of the Iliff School of Theology in Denver. The Project was founded in 1997 by Vincent Harding and Rosemarie Freeney Harding (now deceased), longtime activists, historians and teachers of spiritually-based social activism. From a lifetime of commitment to compassionate social change, the Hardings have developed an unparalleled project drawing on the personal stories of women and men who have given decades of their lives to the work of creating a more just, peaceable and compassionate society—“a more perfect union.” These veterans’ stories provide models of encouragement, healing and social transformation for the 21st century. In 2003, the Veterans of Hope Project began a compassionate leadership development program for high school age youth called Ambassadors of Hope. In 2004, the Project became a PeaceJam sponsor. |
