Chrissa shared an amazing opportunity with us yesterday about how we can win a million dollars and we are all in the process of harassing our friends and family on Facebook to vote for PeaceJam. (Vote here!) Sometimes when I am tired and feeling guilty for contacting my Facebook pals for yet another amazing cause, thinking about what the money would actually do for PeaceJam helps me get motivated to send one more message.
So here's some things that PeaceJam could do if we somehow managed to aquire an extra million dollars:
13,333 students could attend a Youth Conference and meet a Nobel Laureate, for free.
6,666 adults could be trained to teach PeaceJam curicula all around the world, for free.
58,823 copies of the PeaceJam book could be purchased and distributed to people (Oprah, Bill Gates, that kid who bullied you in first grade), for free.
166,666 compact florescent light bulbs could be purchased and distributed by PeaceJam clubs to communities in poverty to help them use 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs for approximately $4,999,980 of savings (check out the return on that investment).
100,000 malaria bed nets could be purchased to help stop the spread of global disease.
Approximately 400 community gardens could be started and maintained by PeaceJam clubs to help battle food insecurity and global climate change.
PeaceJam could give out 5,000 mini-grants ($200) to PeaceJam clubs around the world to fund their amazing Global Call to Action projects.
20,000 trees could be planted by PeaceJam clubs worldwide (shout out to PeaceJam Northwest). Those trees, if they all reach maturity, would remove 960,000 lbs. of carbon from the atmosphere EVERY YEAR.
Pani could have 3 red Ferrari's.
A measly $4,000 could be spent on airfare to lovely Arvada, CO for a rockin' VISTA reunion. Or, as Zach so quickly pointed out, at $4,000 out of $1,000,000, we could meet 250 times in the next ten months, or 25 times a month.
So what do you guys think PeaceJam could do with a million dollars? |
