The PeaceJam Experience

I hope that through my experience with PeaceJam I can help to spread the idea of peace to children that probably never really thought about what that means. I think when we are growing up and going to school, there is a lot of negativity placed upon us through peer pressure and the desire to just be accepted. We unintentionally put out hurtful messages sometimes because we just don't understand how they can affect someone. Hopefully, by getting a broader world view of peace and issues that concern everyone, there will be a connection and sympathy for others that maybe they had'nt even felt before. Things that bothered one in the past may start to seem less significant when looking at others situations and perspectives of what is truly important to the global community as a whole.

If I can be a part of inspiring even one persons "aha" moment and further my own education by mentoring others, I think I would really gain a lot of personal fulfillment and consider the PeaceJam Slam a major stepping stone in experience to go on to the PeaceJam in Spring. Peace can start with just one person and the more successful we are at getting out that message to children and have them share their stories with friends at school, the chance for change and open communication is there and it cannot just be silenced.

To see the "aha" moment is amazing. I had the opportunity to do so while running at PeaceJam group at a near-by middle school. After the conference we had a middle schooler named Lysandra who was on fired and decided to start up two GCA projects. It was an amazing transformation and I'll never forget it.

Apathy to Action is an amazing thing.
