PJNE Conference

Whew! So I survived our conference!!! It was an absolutely amazing experience and one that I am not soon to forget (if only because of the many bruises coloring my body!) No, really--I cannot even express how awesome it was.
I was in charge of the conference projects and while one of them was left unfinished (so that Camila and I are painting this week instead of sleeping) the rest of them went well. One in particular, a rally that we held for CT Walks for Haiti (a walkathon to raise money and awareness for Haiti, to be held in two weeks) raised $1,000 in an hour and a half!! I really think the rally also got a lot more walkers for the actual walk which translates into even more money for Haiti! Camila also facilitated a service project with one of our awesome mentors where the Jammers painted quilt squares to be assembled. Adolfo even painted a square! The quilt is spectacular and is going to be a major piece of a larger peace and justice movement here in Hartford being spearheaded by the Bushnell Theater and several other organizations including PeaceJam Northeast.

The Jammers also raised $1,200 for Adolfo's schools in Argentina which is totally awesome. We have several school PeaceJam programs that have expressed interest in creating "sister school" relationships with the Peace Villages so that is going to be really amazing!

Overall, it was an amazing experience and we are already hard at work preparing for the Slam and beginning several other projects to make the Northeast a super-strong PeaceJam presence!

**Camila, this weekend was crazy and we rarely slept but we made it! You were awesome at keeping calm and just getting things done! Your service project was amazing and one of the best we had. I definitely could not imagine going through this conference with anyone else. You are the best co-VISTA/roomie/partner-in-spinster-hood/friend a girl could ask for!**

**And to Kate, you are amazing, we love you and we are so glad that you came out this weekend. We really needed your presence and Camila and I both feel reinvigorated for the rest of our terms. We are going to set the Northeast on fire! (In a good way, of course!!)**

Awesome! Happy to hear it was such a success - and fantastic that several PJ programs are interested in creating a "sister school" relationship. Nicely done, chicas :)

Yes, it was an amazing conference, and you all did a wonderful job organizing it! Thanks for all your hard work!
Have put Barry in touch with Leslie Kielson, May 2 march organizer, and Lisa Putkey, youth organizer, both at PeaceAction NY, re having a special PeaceJam section of the youth contingent. If there's a "thread" or anything I should know about as planning proceeds, please let me - and of course others ;-) know. Thanks for all your energy, enthusiasm, and hard work! Peace. Vicki
