Los Angeles Ambassadors Trainings!
Posted 6/16/2009 at 10:18 AM by Jes W
Last weekend (June 12-13) I was in Los Angeles for our first Ambassadors Training since before the 2008 PeaceJam Conference. We worked with the LA PeaceJam chapter that is run by the Cesar E. Chavez Foundation (CECF) in downtown LA to hold the training at their offices. The room that we used was a large conference room on the first floor of a historic bank building off of 6th and South Spring Street. Francine from the CECF was a life saver helping to set up the room, pick up lunch, and clean up after me when I had to run out the door to catch my flight. Thanks so much Francine!

The trainings were smaller than usual - 12 on Friday and 10 on Saturday, but it was a great vibe at both trainings and the teachers were fantastic to work with! They came from all over- San Diego/Excel Youth Zone, the Bay Area/Educators Without Boarders, Los Angeles/SEA, Los Angeles/
Birmingham High School, Los Angeles/New Vision Partnerships, and more.

I didn't stay in a hotel for my trip (thank goodness! I'm so tired of hotels!), because former PeaceJam Mentor and VISTA, Pani Beigi is living in LA for a couple of months and she and her mom graciously let me stay at their place. Pani made some awesome Pasta for dinner on Thursday when I arrived and we went to see a movie (I'm too embarrassed to say which one!) on Friday night. Unfortunately, I started feeling really sick on Friday night and ended up having the flu. :( Feeling a lot better now, though!

We see this as just the start in preparing for the California PeaceJam conference with Rigoberta Menchu Tum in October. We will be holding more trainings in the coming months and we will be working with our Chapters offices in San Diego and Los Angeles to build a strong PeaceJam community in Southern California!

Peace!
Jes

How's Pani? It's weird not having her around, heh. She's a good cook so you're lucky you got to have pani feeding ya, hehe.
