Hope for the Hill

I am encouraged and inspired by the generous and thoughtful response of students at our school (Eagle Hill) to our club's Hope for Haiti fundraiser. Usually when there's a "dress down day" or other fundraiser, kids ask for change back if they're using a big bill- or they say things that make it obvious that they're in it for whatever perk comes with giving...but it's different this time.

This time around, so many kids seem genuinely eager to be generous & don't seem to be as focused on what they're getting back from donating their dough.

It's their attitudes about giving that's refreshing.

Here's to giving for the sake of giving...

I really thank you for sharing this because it really does capture the sentiment throughout much of the US right now. It also makes me think about how people question why it takes something really bad happening for people to respond and help. And, while I believe that we as a global community do need to work towards maintaining the type of compassion we have towards Haiti right now, towards the world all the time, these bursts of kindness also gives me hope that when in a crunch, people still have compassion and can still see the importance of helping other humans no matter their connection to them. So kudos to your youth and to a school culture that acknowledges the greatness of giving for the sake of giving.
